Table Bases and Tops

Types of bases and table tops: what you'll find in this selection

The collection is divided into two main categories: supporting bases (pedestals and spoked bases) and table tops in various materials. This division allows you to freely combine structure and surface, useful when replacing just one component or building a made-to-measure table for a contract or residential project.

Flat plate bases

Flat plate bases distribute weight over a large contact surface. The Moia Greenwood Table Base Flat Plate Brown Steel and the round versions in anthracite and white steel (Ø 40 cm, 9.5 kg) are suitable for fixed installations in interior or protected environments. The flat surface can be fixed to the floor or left free, guaranteeing stability even with generously sized tops.

Four-spoke bases

Four-spoke bases combine visual lightness with solid load-bearing capacity. The Moia Greenwood 4-Spoke Table Base Black Steel 60×60 H72 is designed for contract use, with 60 mm tube and structure supporting tops up to 120×80 cm. The Moia Greenwood 4-Spoke Table Base Black Cast Iron Weighted adds integrated 6 kg ballast to increase stability with large tops or in windy environments.

High bases for bar and bistro tables

For bar tables and standing stations, Moia Greenwood offers tall bases with flat feet in anthracite and white steel. Heights designed for tops at 105–110 cm, suitable for patios, bars, bistros and contract use. The Nardi Table Base Clip Tortora in polypropylene, with a patented snap-lock system, is instead aimed at multifunctional and seasonal spaces where frequent assembly and disassembly occurs — a solution we often recommend to those managing patios or terraces.

Folding aluminium bases

The Moia Greenwood Folding Aluminium Table Base Ø 60 mm 7 kg is available in anthracite and white. The aluminium structure weighs 7 kg and folds for easy transport and storage, useful for seasonal summer outdoor installations or spaces that change configuration frequently.

Table tops: HPL and porcelain stoneware

The tops complete the modular offer. Moia Greenwood provides:
- Rust-Effect HPL Top 70×70 cm, 12 mm thickness: high-pressure laminate, resistant to impacts, heat and chemical agents.
- Marble-Effect HPL Top 55×70 cm: marble effect on technical surface, suitable for indoor and covered outdoor use.
- Grey Porcelain Stoneware Top 70×70 cm, 12 mm thickness e White Marble Porcelain Stoneware Top 70×70 cm: porcelain stoneware, a heavy and durable material, ideal for contexts where mechanical resistance is a priority.

How to choose the right base

Based on intended use

For fixed indoor use (restaurant, office, dining room), flat plate bases in steel offer maximum stability. For outdoor use — patios, gardens, outdoor dining areas — aluminium bases with anti-corrosion treatment or Nardi polypropylene structures are the most practical choices. If you're looking for solutions for outdoor tables already assembled, you'll find the entire offer in the dedicated section.

Based on table top height

  • Top at 74–75 cm (standard dining table): bases H72–H74 such as the Moia Greenwood 4-Spoke Black Steel.
  • Top at 105–110 cm (bar table): tall Moia Greenwood bases with flat foot, height 73–75 cm, adding the top thickness.
  • Top at 90 cm (standing desk or low counter): bases 58–60 cm.

Always account for the top thickness (12 mm for HPL and stoneware in this selection) when calculating final height.

Based on table top dimensions

The ideal ratio between base and top is that the base diameter or width corresponds to roughly half that of the top. A 60×60 cm spoked base supports tops up to 120×80 cm or round tops up to Ø 100 cm. For larger dimensions, consider additional ballast or a base with wider spokes.

If your project concerns indoor tables already complete, you can compare assembled solutions with the base+top combinations in this section to find the best balance between flexibility and cost.

Based on disassembly frequency

For contract spaces, hospitality or seasonal patios, the Nardi Clip system allows quick attachment and detachment without tools. For long-term fixed installations, flat plate bases secured with screws guarantee maximum stability without need for further intervention. Those managing outdoor contract tables for bars, restaurants and patios will find this distinction useful when choosing the assembly system.

For a fixed indoor or dining room table, also consult the fixed tables section to see the complete versions already assembled.

FAQ — Frequently asked questions about table bases and tops

What is the difference between a plate base and a spoke base?

The plate base offers continuous floor contact: maximum stability, ideal for fixed installations and heavy tops like stoneware. The four-spoke base distributes weight over four points, is visually lighter and easier to move, suitable for contract contexts and intensive daily use.

Are aluminium bases suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. Moia Greenwood aluminium bases are treated to resist corrosion, salt spray and atmospheric agents. Epoxy powder coatings maintain the finish unchanged over time, even with prolonged UV exposure. For the polypropylene version, Nardi offers material that is inherently resistant to moisture and sun rays.

How do you choose the base height for a bar table?

For a top positioned at 105–110 cm from the ground, the base should measure approximately 73–75 cm. You must subtract the top thickness (12 mm for HPL and stoneware). For standing stations with a 90 cm top, bases of 58–60 cm are used. The tall Moia Greenwood bases with flat foot are dimensioned to these standards.

What does "weighted base" mean?

Weighting consists of adding weight to the base — cast iron or steel discs — to increase stability, especially with wide tops or in windy environments. The Moia Greenwood 4-Spoke Black Cast Iron Base integrates 6 kg of ballast already in production. Alternatively, it is possible to add ballast discs later on some models.

Are HPL and stoneware tops suitable for outdoors?

High-pressure HPL (12 mm thickness) resists heat, impacts and chemical agents; it is used both indoors and in covered outdoor spaces. The 70×70 cm porcelain stoneware top is waterproof and frost-resistant, therefore also suitable for outdoors. Both materials require cleaning with neutral detergents and soft cloth, avoiding abrasive products.

How do you clean painted bases?

Water and neutral detergent with soft cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges, solvents or chlorine-based products that damage epoxy powder coating. For bases used outdoors, periodic inspection of fixing points is recommended and, on models with moving parts, slight lubrication of hinges.
