RCR Cristalleria Italiana (since 1967) produces wine glasses and glasses made from ecological crystal LUXION: lead-free, 100% recyclable and dishwasher-safe without losing brilliance. The Opera and Universum ranges cover all needs — red and white wine glasses, flutes for sparkling wine, tumblers for water, balloon glasses for gin and tonic and cocktails — available in sets of 6 or 18 pieces to complete a coordinated service. To explore this category further, consult the glassware and table accessories.
WD LifeStyle brought 39 new items to this collection this autumn: glasses in borosilicate glass 250 ml with three-dimensional internal decorations — dachshund, cat, little bear, rocking horse — are among the most original novelties, suitable both as a gift and on an informal table. The range is completed with anoil and vinegar bottle in borosilicate 400 ml and a wine cooling stick in stainless steel H 32 cm with hermetic lid and pouring spout. Porcelain plates: Saturnia, Rose & Tulipani, Tognana
Saturnia (since 1966) offers white porcelain plates for intensive use: the Piatto Fondo Siviglia (D 22 cm, H 4.2 cm) is one of the most commonly used professional formats, also available in the 20-21 cm (dessert) and 31 cm (pizza) versions. Saturnia porcelain is designed for intensive washing cycles in restaurants, but is equally suitable for the home table.
Rose & Tulipani with the Concerto collection brings colour to the table: the shades of dusty pink, mauve, olive green and cobalt blue work well for a Sunday lunch or celebrations. Concerto plates are dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe (except gold or platinum decorations). For serving plates and larger formats, there is the plates and trays for the table.
Tognana (since 1946) and Salvinelli (since 1964) complete the porcelain offering with ranges for both domestic and professional use.
Melamine: Guzzini and outdoor formats
Guzzini (since 1912) produces plates, trays and bowls in food-contact certified melamine: lightness, impact resistance and vibrant colours over time. It is the right choice for lunch in the garden, picnics or informal tables with children. Melamine is not suitable for the microwave or direct contact with very hot food for prolonged periods.
Table accessories: cake stands, oil bottles, wine chillers
WD LifeStyle offers pearl and gold glass cake stands in medium format (Ø 21 cm) and large (Ø 28 cm), suitable for desserts, starters or centrepieces. The 1-litre clear acrylic bottle with gold lid is a decorative detail that also works on a formal table. For those looking for coordinated single-use items for parties and ceremonies, the givi page offers paper plates and glasses for large tables.
Plastic plates and glasses: the single-use category
The collection includes a single-use section (126 products) with plates, glasses and accessories in reusable and disposable plastic, useful for buffets, outdoor parties and informal ceremonies. Among the brands present: Big Party (on the market since 1994) and Ad Trend.
How to choose
For everyday family dining
Choose materials that withstand the dishwasher every day without degrading. White Saturnia porcelain is versatile and does not absorb odours or deteriorate with frequent washing. Guzzini melamine is ideal when there are children or you eat outdoors.
For plates and glasses for celebrations
For Christmas, Easter or an important dinner, RCR glasses in LUXION crystal elevate the table without requiring hand washing. Coloured Rose & Tulipani Concerto porcelain adds character to a set table. WD LifeStyle glasses with internal decorations work well as place card holders or gifts for guests.
For professional use (restaurants, catering, hospitality)
Saturnia porcelain is designed for intensive use: it withstands continuous washing cycles and frequent impacts. Sets of 6 or 18 pieces of RCR make it easy to restock coordinated tables. For cutlery to match the plates, the cutlery and table accessories section provides everything needed to complete the mise en place.
For an original gift at Christmas or other occasions
WD LifeStyle borosilicate glasses with three-dimensional decorations (little bear, dachshund, rocking horse) are a practical and unusual gift, at an affordable price. WD LifeStyle glass cake stands in pearl and gold are suitable as a gift for the home. For complete table sets, the kaleidos page brings together coordinated plates and glasses.
Table etiquette: a few practical rules about cutlery
The classic arrangement places forks to the left of the plate (from outside to inside in order of use) and knives on the right with the blade facing the plate. The spoon goes to the right of the knife. Glasses are positioned at the top right: the water glass closer to the plate, the wine glass further away. The napkin is placed to the left or directly on the plate. At the end of the meal, the cutlery is left parallel on the plate, with the handle facing right.
FAQ
What is the difference between crystal and normal glass?
Crystal contains minerals that increase brilliance, transparency and produce a characteristic sound. RCR Cristalleria Italiana's LUXION crystal is ecological (lead-free), 100% recyclable and offers the same aesthetic qualities as traditional crystal with greater impact resistance. All RCR glasses in LUXION are dishwasher-safe.
Can porcelain go in the dishwasher and microwave?
Quality porcelain — such as Saturnia and the Rose & Tulipani Concerto collection — is dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe. The exception is models with gold or platinum decorations, which are not suitable for the microwave. Always check the specific manufacturer's instructions on the individual product.
Is melamine safe for food use?
Yes, melamine certified for food contact is safe at normal serving temperatures. It should not be used in the microwave or oven and is not suitable for very hot food for prolonged periods. It is ideal for lunch in the garden, picnics and informal tables.
How do I choose the right glass for each drink?
Glasses with a stem prevent warming the wine with your hand. Flutes keep the bubbles in sparkling wine. Tumblers are versatile for water and soft drinks. Balloon glasses enhance the aromas of gin and tonic and cocktails. Capacity varies from approximately 13 cl (flutes) up to over 60 cl for larger cocktail glasses.
Where should forks be placed according to etiquette?
Forks go to the left of the plate, arranged from outside to inside in order of use: the fork for the main course is the one closest to the plate. Knives go to the right with the blade facing the plate, the spoon even further to the right. Glasses are placed at the top right.
Where to leave the napkin at the end of the meal?
The napkin should be left folded and placed to the left of the plate, without arranging it as at the start. It should not be put back in the ring and not placed on the dirty plate. For those who momentarily leave the table, it should be left folded on the chair.
