Types of TeraPlast Pots and Planters: Functions and Uses
The TeraPlast range covers all outdoor ornamental greenery needs. The round pots — Bloom, Over, Duna, Andromeda, Stem, Stalk, Standard One, Pasubio and Schio Tower lines — are designed for single plants, shrubs, and small trees on terraces, with diameters ranging from 34 cm for compact models up to 80–100 cm for large column pots. The Sahara bowls, with their low and wide profile, are suitable for compositions with groundcover or succulent plants.
The rectangular and square planters — Trama, Aqua, Sirio, Still, Sinai, Petram and Cassa Schio Maxi — are designed to define spaces, create green dividers on terraces and balconies, or border pathways and pool areas. The Orma Saucer saucers complete the range with practical water collection solutions, available in 29 and 33 cm sizes coordinated with pots from the same line.
Materials and Workmanship: Outdoor Resin and 100% Recycled Plastic
TeraPlast uses two main families of materials. The first is outdoor resin: a high-density synthetic compound, resistant to UV rays, thermal variations, and humidity, which allows for high-quality surface finishes — smooth, textured, or with decorative effects such as antique and festooned. Resin is the material for the Trama, Aqua, Still, Stem, Stalk, Schio Tower, Pasubio, Standard One, and Cassa Schio Maxi lines.
The second family is 100% recycled plastic: a material produced from regenerated post-consumer polymers, with a significantly reduced environmental impact compared to virgin plastic. It is the material for the Bloom, Over, Duna, Andromeda, Thar, Sinai, Sahara lines and the Orma Saucer saucers. The "Dot" surface texture — a characteristic micro-dot pattern — is the distinctive feature of this product family.
The Lithos and Petram lines, on the other hand, use recyclable plastic with a stone-effect finish, which simulates the appearance of slate and granite while maintaining the lightness of the polymer.
Sizes and Proportions: How to Choose
Round pots cover a very wide range: they start from 34 cm in diameter for compact Bloom and Stem models, suitable for balconies and windowsills, up to 80–100 cm for Pasubio and Schio Tower column pots, designed for entrances, large terraces, and contract spaces. Intermediate sizes — 38, 48, 57, 58, 65 cm — cover most standard residential needs.
Rectangular planters vary from 78 cm (Aqua 78, Sirio 78) up to 100 cm in length (Trama 002, Aqua 98, Sinai 98), with depths between 38 and 47 cm and heights between 34 and 80 cm. The square planters Trama 001 and 014 measure 42×42 cm, while the Trama 003 reaches 100×100 cm for high-impact installations. Orma Saucer saucers are available in 29 and 33 cm diameters.
Style and Design: From Natural Textured to Contemporary Geometric
TeraPlast aesthetics are articulated on two main registers. The recycled plastic lines — Bloom, Over, Duna, Andromeda, Sahara — express a natural and contemporary style, with the Dot texture reminiscent of organic surfaces and raw materials. The palette is restrained and earthy: Sand (sand/taupe), Fog (mist grey), Ash (anthracite/ash), and Forest (dark green).
The resin lines — Trama, Schio Tower, Pasubio — adopt a more architectural and decorative register. The Trama series stands out for its woven texture reminiscent of wicker or rope work, available in Almond, Moka, Ash, and Dark Forest finishes. The Lithos and Petram lines with stone effect are aimed at those seeking a more natural and tactile aesthetic, with finishes that imitate slate, granite, and white stone. The antique Doppio Bordo and Festonato pots complete the range with a classic and decorative aesthetic.
Sustainability: Recycled Plastic and Responsible Production
A significant part of the TeraPlast range is made from 100% recycled plastic from post-consumer polymers. This approach reduces the consumption of virgin raw materials and contributes to the recovery of plastic materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. TeraPlast recycled plastic products are certified and maintain the same resistance and durability performance as traditional materials, without compromising aesthetic or functional quality.
The lightness of the materials — both resin and recycled plastic — facilitates the movement of pots even in larger sizes, reducing the risk of damage during transport and installation.
The TeraPlast selection available on L'Arcolaio includes the brand's entire range, from compact saucers to large terrace planters, with the possibility of creating coordinated sets by color and line. Each product is chosen for the consistency between material quality, design, and outdoor use durability. The service includes assistance in choosing the most suitable sizes and finishes for the space. Shipping is available throughout Italy.
Are TeraPlast pots made of recycled plastic resistant to sun and weather?
Yes. The recycled plastic used by TeraPlast is treated with UV stabilizers that preserve its color and structure even with prolonged exposure to the sun. The materials do not deform with summer heat or crack with winter frost, making them suitable for outdoor use all year round.
What is the difference between resin pots and recycled plastic pots?
Outdoor resin pots offer more elaborate surface finishes — woven textures, antique effects, smooth glossy surfaces — and are available in warmer colors (Cappuccino, Bronze, Moka, Almond). Recycled plastic pots are distinguished by their characteristic Dot texture, earthy palette (Sand, Fog, Ash, Forest), and certified environmental sustainability profile.
Do TeraPlast pots have drainage holes?
Most TeraPlast pots have a drainage hole at the bottom to prevent water stagnation. For models without holes or for use on delicate surfaces, we recommend pairing them with Orma Saucer saucers from the same line. Check the individual product sheet for details.
Are Trama planters suitable for use as terrace dividers?
Yes. Trama planters — especially models 015 (100×42 cm, H 80 cm) and 014 (42×42 cm, H 80 cm) — are also designed to create green dividers on terraces and balconies, thanks to their 80 cm height which provides visual privacy when planted with shrubs or ornamental grasses.
Are Pasubio and Schio Tower column pots suitable for large plants?
Yes. Pasubio (H 100 cm) and Schio Tower (H 80 cm) pots are designed for small trees, medium-sized shrubs, and structured ornamental plants. The internal capacity is adequate to contain a sufficient volume of substrate for the growth of plants with developed root systems.
Is it possible to leave TeraPlast pots outdoors during winter?
Yes. Both outdoor resin and TeraPlast recycled plastic resist winter temperatures without cracking or deforming. In case of intense and prolonged frost, it is advisable to partially empty the substrate to prevent the expansion of frozen soil from damaging the pot.
